THE LESTER PRIZE 2020/21 SJOGHC TOURING OUTDOOR EXHIBITION

A digitally printed exhibition of The Lester Prize Salon des Refusés (Semi-Finalists) on Outdoor Exhibition Boxes.

The idea of the Salon des Refusés originated in Paris in the nineteenth century when works by avant-garde artists were not accepted into exhibitions organised by the establishment. This led to artists mounting their own exhibitions, where they achieved great success.

The Lester Prize initiated the Salon as part of our Exhibition Season in response to the high number of entries submitted to the Prize that were not selected as finalists for the Main Awards at Art Gallery WA. This alternative collection of works are selected for their quality, diversity, or exciting or witty approach to portraiture.

The Lester Prize 2020 Semi-Finalists have been given an opportunity to showcase their work in a similar spirit in this Outdoor Exhibition. As a result, members of the public can experience the full variety of works submitted, and the talents of the artists who submitted them.
